SkyCity Entertainment has been ordered to commission an independent review of its Adelaide Casino’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, as well as its host responsibilities.

The South Australian Liquor and Gambling Commissioner directed the casino operator to appoint a qualified independent expert to review SkyCity Adelaide’s suitability to hold its licence, and the suitability of SkyCity to continue to be a close associate of the casino.

SkyCity chief operating officer in Australia David Christian said the company would do so.

“We will fully co-operate with the commissioner in relation to the selection and appointment of the independent expert, and work closely with the independent expert,” Christian said.

“It is very important to us that our customers, community, and the regulators have confidence in our commitment to the highest standards of compliance.”

Brokerage firm Forsyth Barr said the latest development was a positive for SkyCity, which also owns the Auckland Casino, as the regulator was focused on current processes and procedures rather than the casino’s past failings.

It said SkyCity had recently invested heavily into its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism harm minimisations processes, which were aided by its decision to cease junkets in 2021.
